Romulo B. Sans (Barcelona) was born into a Catalan family of architects and artists, highly influenced by his grandfather, surrealist painter Jaume Sans. Sans went on to study contemporary music and jazz at the Aula de Musica Moderna in Barcelona.Towards the end of the eighties, he moved to the United States; first to Philadelphia, where he entered the world of plastic arts by the hand of Isaiah Zagar; then on to San Francisco where he studied Graphic Communication at the City College and worked at the Mission Cultural Center. He later moved to New York, a city where he has felt at home ever since and where he ventured into the fashion world for the first time. In 1993, he then went on to study History of Fashion at FIT NY (Fashion Institute of Technology, New York) and opened an accessory store in the heart of Soho called SANS NY. That same year he founded Sansmedia, an advertising agency for young labels on the up and coming New York fashion scene, and started collaborating as a stylist and art director for magazines such as Details, Vogue Man and Vogue France, whose art director Donald Schnaider says: Sans is a very rare and lethal combination of an extraordinary artist with the camera and a hot blooded adventurer with a ferocious appetite for life and beauty". Eight years later, Sans moved to Havana, Cuba, where he was able to stop and focus exclusively on his creative work. In 2001, he created the concept of a new magazine/catalogue which he directs himself: The H Magazine ( www.thehmagazine.com) the first lifestyle magazine about Cuba, with careful international distribution, to become a necessary reference of the new Havana. Since then, his work as art director and photographer in the world of advertising, art and fashion has become his main activity. Having collaborated with photographers such as David Bailey, Mathias Vriens and Alberto Figueroa, his work has been published in The New York Times, Details Mag, GEO magazine, Colors Magazine (where he received the 2007 Special Honorable Mention), CNBC Business Magazine, Havana Journal, BBC, Bouygues and Bettiment Magazine. Recently, and after exhibitions in exceptional formats, Sans has abandoned his Cuban retreat and is living between his two cities of New York and Barcelona.Founder and editor of GQ Magazine, James Brown says that: "Romulo Sans" The H Magazine is probably the best and most stylish city guide in the world. Undoubtedly however, David Bailey, a true legend in the fashion world, has best summed up Romulo's work: "I really like what you are doing here. ItÕs very simple and fucking strong. Nobody does things like this anymore." De su trabajo ha dicho James Brown, fundador y editor de GQ Uk: “Romulo Sans’ The H magazine it’s probably the best and most stylish city guide in the world.” I really like what you are doing here its very simple an fucking strong, nobody does shit like this anymore”. |
